Sheri Vari - Despertardamente EP (PRCBS001)

Sheri Vari’s EP is the first release by Lisbon based PERCEBES.

The title, ‘Despertardamente’ plays with the literal meaning in Portuguese: ‘awakening’, with its composite parts: ‘despertar da mente’ (‘awake the mind’).

Sheri delivers a powerful triptic; prompting the spiritual ascent of the listener through dancing. The record has three originals: sharp and relentless jungle-techno-funk on opener ‘Rusty Trombone’; the deep yet wilfully quirky ‘Cincinnati Bowtie’; and jazzy, playfully seductive ‘Rattlesnake Wiggle’. This final track comes with an afro-flavoured killer club remix by star player Carlos Nilmmns (who’s also released on Skylax, 4Lux, Ornaments, Planet E, Trax Records and KMS amongst many others).

If you prefer your club music deep and rootsy, with a hint of oddball charm, you’ll be feeling this release from Sheri Vari. Stylistic comparisons with artists such as Maurice Fulton, Marcellus Pittmann, Shanti Celeste and even some early breakbeat rave and IDM would not be far off the mark.

With Ka§par at the helm for sound mixing and final mastering, ‘Despertardamente’ sounds as good as you’d expect. PERCEBES is set to take a place on the international stage in 2018. Get onboard and pick up a copy while you can, it’ll fly like Pop Tarts!
