Larry Quest - Faíscas

“Faíscas” is portuguese for “sparkles”, the light-fire mix that jump out of a lighter, a groove grinding against a beat, a beat pulsating on a living heart. It’s a fitting name for Larry Quest’s first time on Percebes!
Julien Berland is a Paris native who is living in Lisbon, his artistic persona is Larry Quest (a tongue-in-cheek pun for “la request”). His debut at Percebes comes after an acclaimed 12” on solid underground label Delusions of Grandeur.
The Larry Quest sound is based solely on analog synths and dirty samplers, live takes and absolute energy explosions. His two track manifesto shows two sides to Larry Quest’s sound: a deep and classic sounding deepest house burner that pays homage to poppa Frankie (track’s name is actually “Frenchie Knuckles”) and the relentless rave-esque break exercise of “Synthetic Sisters” (both the track’s name and it’s feel suggest a clever nod to the brit production duo Chemical Brothers).
It’s a straight forward two track underground winner, that displays Larry Quest’s solid musical background and purest respect for the culture’s roots, with as much good humour as sincerity and savoir-faire.
