For a few years now, Lisbon has been a better place with the presence of french keyboardist, composer, beat maker and DJ Julien “Larry Quest” Berland. When Julien arrived he had just released his debut EP on the revered Delusions of Grandeur label (headed by one of the UK’s greats, Jimpster).

Hot on the heels of this love, Ka§par met Julien and both started a long and fruitful relationship that would place Julien at the top tier of Lisbon-based producers and DJ’s with a string of impressive releases, some of them on PERCEBES MÚSICA: “Faíscas”, “Austro” and now his final
piece as a Lisbon resident “Entrega” - as he prepares to head back to Paris in search of bigger and better conquests.

In this, his final opus for Percebes in 2023, Julien crafts another tryptic of incredible funky technosoul bangers! All three tracks present common features: fast paced tempo, latin-themed rhythms on top of bumpin’ four-to-the-floor stompin’, full and delicious chord stabs and pad progressions and a feeling of timeless soul and jazzfunk music printed into their melodies. These tracks will be incredible picks when played against 313 classics or soulful nuyorican house vibes.

- “Loop Hall” is a tense and dubby techno soul slammer. Luscious pads spiked by stabby organs, aided by a resonant squelchy 303 funk bass and lot’s of smart percussion. Clear, clean cut production and a solid, club heavy mix and master for the win. Very evocative of some of Carl
Craig’s most classic work.

- “Father Fader” has a housier feel: a few smartly picked sampled vocal bits and smart key chops looped into a very raw analog sounding beat, while a heart racing narrative evolves around the stacking of stabs and organs that keep building on an ever increasing galvanizing tension. Peak time, fast paced deep winner.

- “Worshipping Express” brings faith and spirituality into the fold, by respectfully borrowing a classic gospel, organ driven house template and pressing it against Quest’s usual corrosive bubble-rubber 303 lines. The surprise comes when the honky tonk piano dresses the whole affair
in a southern fried funk! It’s a clear Los Hermanos/Gerald Mitchell tribute delivered with great transparency and we know it’s going to be a special option for the discerning dance floor minded DJ giants of this world. Reel rite!!
