about

Lisbon based producer and D], Joaquim Gonçalves is Ninguem, and he's been releasing music on credible outlets for years, particularly in some of the more deeply influenced, afro flavoured winning teams (Djeff Afrozilla's Kazukuta label or Oscar P's Open Bar Music to name a couple).

With Percebes, Ninguem has released two tracks - one for each volume of our compilations Produto Interno Bruto ( "Recpresent", a rap track featuring old school portuguese hip hop artist Bambino on vox as well as top rap DJ Kronic on cutting duties, and "Não Vou Af" - funk sleaze with a portuguese sounding composition twist, now reworked with a new mixdown and arrangement for this EP), and now "Passarinho" is his first full EP on his own for the label.

With four unique tracks, the EP is rich, diverse, and expertly translates a sense of identity and authenticity. It's a deep, rootsy, electronic yet extremely orchestral work. Straight dance floor material infused with dramatic and emotional compositions... Coherent and extremely ambitious.

- "Quatrovinte" opens as a relentless piece of afro-sounding mid tempo house deepness, a beatdown track with a smart time signature and rich composition, seriously sober production that takes a wonderful turn into an exotic Cabo-Verde inspired bridge before returning to it's initial cool and bass driven atmosphere.

- "Sabura na Gaita" features Gatupreto on the co-production tip (Helder Russo and Kaspar) and guest musicians like vocalist Bdjoy (local hip hop, reaggae, funk and afro beat underground hero) for a superb dance floor club workout.

- "Não Vou Por Aí", originally released on Produto Interno Bruto vol. I, is a slick p-funk hit with a deep spoken message in portuguese. It evolves into a symphonic opus - sounding like a fun 90's Armand Van Helden style phunk beat with a composition that is heavily influenced by portuguese composers like José Cid or António Variações.

- "Lusitana" closes the EP as an amazing piece of halfbeat/downtempo theatrics. A pristine sounding track, sure to be listened in many of Lisbon's enticing "miradouros". Deep bass on top of live soul drums, evolving into a dramatic orchestral exercise with naive sounding strings that punctuate the innocence and brilliance of the composition itself. Amazing piece of music.
