minimalArchiv "Aurora Espectral"

minimalArchiv is the moniker taken up by electronic music producer Simon Chisholm, an artist who's been based in the Northern UK town of Hebden Bridge for the last decade (having previously lived in London and Hong Kong). Chisholm's productions aim to generate electronic soul music by intertwining gritty machine funk with smooth soulful drums and emotional textures - music that works perfectly for both dancefloor action and headphone enjoyment. Tracks that reveal intricate soundscapes, micro rhythms and detailed patterns against heart-felt melodies and deep harmonies. "Aurora Espectral" is quite simply machine music with great emotion.

Despite "Aurora Espectral" being Chisholm's debut on Percebes, he has released on several relevant labels in recent years - including Integrity Records (Singapore), Metrohm (France) and the iconic UK label Network Records. "Aurora Espectral" is minimalArchiv's second full EP and brings together three recent tracks for the Lisbon based label.
If “Don’t Quit Let Go” is an elementary exercise in machine funk that easily evokes textures of great Detroit classics by the likes of Paperclip People or Dark Comedy, “The Spectral Morning” completes it (inspired by the flow of water off local hills) while referencing music from the likes of John Beltran, Marty Bonds and even Sterac. The closing track is “Cascade (Version)”: a beautiful downtempo gem that is a collaboration between Chisholm and Kora instrumentalist John Haycock (specifically, it's a rework of a track from Haycock's recently released and highly acclaimed debut album “Dorian Portrait”).

Varied, deep and beautiful are adjectives that fit well into minimalArchiv's brilliant debut for Percebes, "Aurora Espectral".
